Successful application of SIGRINER’s Multi-Axis Servo

A parallel robot is supplied with a moving platform or the static platform in which there are two or more independent kinematic chains connected, and it provides the closed loop structures with two or more degrees of freedom driven in parallel.

For the parallel robot, the motor is placed on the static platform which provide the design with lightweight of the moving parts in order to ensure the robot with light weight, high speed and short cycles. Combining with the visual inspection system and dynamic grasping, it is widely used in light industries, including food, medicine, electronics and more, and it provides the unparalleled advantages in material handling, packaging, sorting and other operations, which can significantly improve the production efficiency of the assembly line.

 

· 1  Structure features 

A common parallel robot has four axes as shown in the figure below, which can shift on the X, Y, and Z axes and rotate around the Z axis. For its mechanical structure, the motor is directly connected to the main arm through the transmission, the main arm is connected to the auxiliary arm through the stop device. For the static or moving platform, there is a fourth axis which rotate around the Z axis. During movement, the motor drives the main arm to swing up and down within a certain angle and drives the auxiliary arm to allow the moving platform accurately positioning.

· 2  Ωm-N1 Servo Drive 

This parallel robot is powered by SIGRINER Ωm-N1 series multi-axis servo drive. It uses EtherCAT bus for communication. The power architecture is based on DC bus, which supports multi-drive units cascaded to supply power. Three-axis and four-axis can work as an integrated unit, and can support flexible customization to meet different applications.

As the figure above shown, the robot control system is connected to the Ωm-N1 drive over the EtherCAT bus. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th axis of the Delta robot are driven by this drive. Rigid adjustment can be easily and quickly completed by one button, then, the system responsiveness commission with same easy and quickness, reducing commission time at customer side. This drive provides 3 times overload capacity and performs hardware current loop response, it can ensure that 200 cycles/min for the standard gate-shaped test action. The optimal tuning algorithm can effectively reduce the jitter of the mechanical body during high-speed operation.

SIGRINER Ωm-N1 features high power density, which can reduce the installation space by about 30% compared with the servo of the same power. The feed-through mounting can further optimize the inside space of the electrical cabinet and improve its protection.

As shown in the figure, with the help of the one-key auto-tuning function provided by the Ω platform, the customer can easily complete the auto-tuning operation, and once tuned, the parameters can directly meet the demand on equipment, significantly reduce the commission time on-site.

With optimal trajectory shaping algorithm of the Ω platform and with the same control command, the current fluctuation in the operation of the equipment can be effectively reduced. For more than 200 high-speed cyclic operations, it still can ensure the smooth operation of the robot and extend the working life of the mechanical body.

 

· Multiple protection, safe application

 

When the parallel robot is running at high speed, for such short cycles, if it does not provide right safety functions, it may cause a serious collision in the event of an accident. The servo series with Ω platform provide the protections from dynamic braking, vertical drop, abnormal command, and fall to ensure the maximum safety of the equipment and operators of customers in the event of an accident, and reduce the losses.

 

· 5  Summary  

 

Servo with the Ω platform is equipped with the standard 402 protocol and can work with the major control systems on the market, including robot control systems Keba.

 

· Compact design for customization

 

The SIGRINER Ωm-N1 drive can perfectly comply with the need of the parallel robots, and for its compact design as big as one hand, it can save the space of the electrical cabinet for customers. It supports the bracket mounting, which can further save the mounting space and benefit the customization.
